If you are a new student member, your first year of membership is free. 

To join, follow these steps.

• If you have not done so already, create an account at www.smpte.org
• Click on Member Log in and choose "Create an account”
• Go to the SMPTE store, individual membership, and add Student membership to your cart.  Click "Checkout" 
• On the Checkout page, make sure that all your information is correct. 
• You will be asked to upload a picture of your student ID.
• At the bottom of the page, your will see a space for a Discount code.   New members, use the code Studentfree, and choose  Add Discount. 
• Press continue to the final checkout screen, where your amount due will be $0.  
• Press purchase, and you are all set.  
• Your membership will be added to an approval process.  When the membership is approved, you will receive a welcome message
